The Athenian Layers

The Athenian Layers is conceived as a dialogue between Athen’s architectural heritage and contemporary urban living. The existing building, with it’s elegant proportions, tall openings, decorative cornices and wrought-iron balconies, forms the historic foundation of the project and preserves the memory and craftsmanship of an earlier Athens.

Above it, a contemporary extension creates a new architectural layer. Clean lines, larger glazed surfaces, vertical elements, terraces and integrated greenery introduce a lighter, modern expression while responding to the rhythm and proportions of the original architecture.

Rather than imitating the past, the project celebrates the contrast between old and new: heritage represents memory and permanence, while the extension expresses openness and contemporary life. This concept of layering continues within the residences through three distinct interpretations of modern Athenian living.: The Collector, The Voyager and The Muse.

The Collector — 40, 42 & 45 sqm

Inspired by a well-travelled Athenian lifestyle, The Voyager layers richer timbers, tactile fabrics, Mediterranean references and collected objects to create a warm interior with character and a sense of discovery.

The lightest and most expressive residence, combining warm ivory, natural oak, subtle stone and sculptural elements. Soft natural light and curated art give the home an elegant, serene and creative identity.
